Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin II - Artesia's Sorrow

Directed by Yoshikazu Yasuhiko, this is the second part of The Origin. In U.C. 0071, three years after escaping the Zabi family, Artesia and Casval are living in Andalusia in Spain under other names, presented as the children of Don Teabolo Mass, a long-standing friend of their father. This instalment continues the childhood story and is among the quietest in the run. How Casval's anger accumulates, and how Artesia is kept away from it, is established here. The transformation of the character who becomes Char Aznable begins in this quiet section. The animation quality is high and the character design keeps Yasuhiko's own line. There is little action; the battles come in later parts. Some viewers will find it slow. Who it's for: viewers following the Gundam universe who want Char's childhood. Who it's not for: anyone starting the series here; the film continues from the first part and supplies no context.
