What Crusher Joe Is About
The Crushers are a hard-bitten trade that takes on anything from transport to terraforming; the name comes from the early years of space exploration, when they broke up asteroids and opened the lanes. The union has strict rules: a Crusher who takes an unethical or illegal job is barred, but a job once accepted is a debt of honour and must be seen through. Shady clients work on exactly that, trying to trick them into misleading assignments. The most elite team is the one led by Crusher Dan and after him by his successor, Joe. Directed by Yoshikazu Yasuhiko from Haruka Takachiho’s novels, the anime opened on 12 March 1983 and won the Animage grand prix that year. The Dirty Pair made their first animated appearance in it.
