Dragon Ball Z: Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan

The eighth Dragon Ball Z feature, and the one that introduced the series' most durable villain. It opened in Japan on 6 March 1993. Broly was created by the screenwriter Takao Koyama and designed by Akira Toriyama. The idea is simple and effective: a Saiyan born the same day as Goku, whose power reading at birth went off the normal scale. His father Paragus keeps him under control with a headband and lures Vegeta to a new planet with the offer of a throne; the real motive is revenge. The whole film rests on one thing: the moment Broly slips control. After that scene it is almost entirely fighting. It was Tadayoshi Yamamuro's first job as character designer. The film landed as hard in the West as in Japan, produced two sequels, and in 2018 the character was rewritten from scratch, this time inside series canon, in Dragon Ball Super: Broly. Who it is for: Dragon Ball Z viewers and anyone curious about the film versions of 1990s television anime. Who it is not for: newcomers to the series. Nobody is introduced, most of its fifty minutes is combat, and none of these films connect to the main story.
