What Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin I - Blue-Eyed Casval Is About
Yoshikazu Yasuhiko's 2015 anime is the first part of a series covering the beginning of the Gundam universe. The story goes back well before the heroes of the original series: Zeon Zum Deikun dies during a speech as he prepares to declare the independence of the people living in space from the Earth government. His two children, Casval and Artesia, become a political threat and are taken away to Earth. The film shows the childhood of the character later known as Char and the source of his anger. Yasuhiko was the character designer on the original series and directs his own comic here. There is little combat; the story rests largely on political intrigue and family. Who it's for: people following the Gundam series and viewers who like political science fiction. Who it's not for: anyone new to it; the film uses a great many terms without explanation.
