Monsieur Aznavour

The son of an Armenian immigrant family spends years trying to hold a stage. His voice is not liked, his height is judged wrong, and the rejections continue. The film does not tie success to one moment; the narrative shows together how rejection turns into stubbornness and what that stubbornness does to the people around him. The songs do not interrupt the narrative; they stay inside the story. Mehdi Idir and Grand Corps Malade directed together, with Tahar Rahim in the lead. It follows the life of a real singer. A real warning: there is the discrimination immigrant families faced and the loss of a child. The central figure is also often shown as cruel to those closest to him, and the narrative does not defend it.
