What Murmur of the Hearts Is About
Mei and her brother Nan spent their childhood on Green Island off the east coast of Taiwan, on their mother’s stories of mermaids curious about the world beyond the water. When the mother left their father and took her daughter to Taipei, the two children were separated. Years later Mei attaches herself to a boxer who is not getting anywhere and begins a long search of her own in the city, and then meets her brother again when she is least prepared for it. Sylvia Chang returned with this film seven years after her previous one. What is remembered and what is forgotten both come with a price, carried separately by all three.
