My Favorite Season

Berthe can no longer live alone in her own house and moves in with her daughter Emilie. Emilie is a notary, married, with two children; her brother Antoine is a neurosurgeon who has not spoken to her in three years. She invites him for Christmas anyway. Once the family are at the table the old accounts come back. As Berthe's condition worsens, the strange, too-close bond between brother and sister becomes visible again. André Téchiné directs, with Catherine Deneuve as Emilie, Daniel Auteuil as Antoine and Marthe Villalonga as their mother. Deneuve's daughter Chiara Mastroianni is also in the cast. It takes on ageing, the weight of caring for someone, and being someone's sibling all at once.
