What The Witnesses Is About

Paris and the Mediterranean coast, 1984. Adrien is a doctor in middle age who becomes attached to Manu, a young man newly arrived from the provinces. Sarah writes children's books; her husband Mehdi is a policeman; they have a new baby and an open marriage. Over one summer these people fold into each other. Then Manu falls ill, and something nobody yet has a name for sits down at the table. André Téchiné shows the moment AIDS first reached France without panic and without lecturing, and he shows the lightness before it as clearly as what came after. Michel Blanc, Emmanuelle Béart and Sami Bouajila star.
