I Don't Kiss

Pierre comes to Paris from a mountain village wanting to act. He cannot get a footing in the city: no work, nowhere to stay, nobody he knows. He works at a hospital for a while and then ends up on the street. Eventually he starts going with men for money. He meets a woman, Ingrid, and falls for her; but Ingrid is in the same work, with a vicious pimp behind her. André Téchiné directs, with Manuel Blanc as Pierre, Emmanuelle Béart as Ingrid and Philippe Noiret as the older man who takes him in. Téchiné neither asks for pity nor apportions blame; he watches a young man arriving in a city wear slowly away.
