What Nasu: Summer in Andalusia Is About
Pepe Benengeli is a second-string cyclist whose job is to protect the team's leader, never to race for himself. This summer the Tour of Spain runs through the streets of his home region, Andalusia. On the same day his brother is marrying Pepe's former girlfriend. For a man who walked away from all of it years ago, that day is the day to do something. Kitarō Kōsaka's first film, from 2003, comes from Iou Kuroda's manga and was produced by Madhouse. Kōsaka had been the animation director on Spirited Away at Ghibli. At forty-seven minutes it became the first Japanese animated film selected for Cannes, and because it runs half the normal length, tickets in Japan were sold at half price.
