Nenu.. Sailaja...

Kishore Tirumala's 2016 Telugu film follows Hari, a DJ in Vizag. Every woman he approaches turns him down; when he meets Sailaja he puts off saying anything so as not to repeat the result, and when he finally does he is refused again. The second half opens the real subject. The reason for the refusal is not what Hari assumed; the narrative puts the woman's own past and decision at the centre and bends the romantic comedy template a little. Ram Pothineni and Keerthy Suresh lead, in one of Suresh's early roles. The tone is light, the music foregrounded and the family scenes given wide space. Who it's for: those who like Telugu romantic comedy. Who it's not for: viewers uncomfortable with persistent pursuit being romanticised; the film uses that pattern in its first half.
