Where Are These Guys Looking At?

Zeki and Metin come to Istanbul from their village in the east for the first time with one thing on their minds: to collect the bride Metin was promised as an infant and go home. While they are looking at the Bosphorus an advertising man photographs the two of them. That single frame quickly becomes a campaign plastered across the city, and the two men find themselves in the middle of a fame they do not understand at all. Helping an injured man on the road makes matters worse. Osman F. Seden's film goes straight at the Turkish advertising business as it was booming in the seventies: how a photograph gets appropriated, how a person's own face becomes somebody else's property. The digs at the commercials of the day are the most enjoyable part of it. Zeki Alasya and Metin Akpınar work here too with the rhythm they brought from the stage, building the comedy on bewilderment rather than on mimicry.
