Njan Gandharvan

A young woman finds a wooden statue on a beach. A celestial lover keeps appearing out of it, visible to her and to no one else. Her passion for him stands at the centre of the film. The account builds this not as a fairy tale but as a story of waking desire. The presence of a lover nobody else can see becomes a problem of explanation for the people around her. The film sets the difference between believing and seeing inside a love story. It is an example of fantasy built from within Malayalam cinema. Nitish Bharadwaj and Suparna Anand appear in P. Padmarajan’s hundred and forty six minute Indian film, completed in 1991.
