What No Man of Her Own Is About
Jerry 'Babe' Stewart is a New York card sharp who leaves town a step ahead of the police and lands somewhere small, where Connie Randall is quietly dying of boredom behind a library desk. They marry fast, and she believes she has married a businessman. Wesley Ruggles shot it in 1932, so it carries the ease of the pre Code years: the moral lesson waits until the last reel and the rest of the picture enjoys itself. This is the only film Clark Gable and Carole Lombard made together. Both were married to other people at the time, and their own marriage was still years off.
