What Nora Prentiss Is About
Dr Talbot leads a quiet and orderly life until he meets Nora Prentiss, a nightclub singer slightly hurt in a street accident. Despite her own doubts the affair deepens, and he ends up caught between leaving her and divorcing his wife. When a patient dies in his office a third road seems to open, and he takes it. Vincent Sherman's 1947 film builds its noir around the collapse of a respectable man rather than of a woman. Ann Sheridan plays Nora and Kent Smith the doctor, and the best thing in it is how inevitable the choice starts to look.
