What The Hasty Heart Is About
In the last days of the Second World War, in a field hospital in Burma, the soldiers on the ward are getting ready to go home. But a badly wounded Scottish corporal has to stay and wants to speak to no one; he is hard, proud and alone. The five soldiers left on the ward and the nurse know how much time the sick man has left and do not tell him; they try to get close to him, and at first he takes that closeness as an insult. Vincent Sherman’s hundred and two minute British American film was adapted from a play; Richard Todd plays the corporal, Patricia Neal the nurse and Ronald Reagan the American on the ward. It was completed in 1949.
