What Odd Couple Is About
A master of the spear and a master of the sword meet on a mountaintop every ten years to fight, and every time it ends in a draw. In the end they accept that neither will beat the other. They find a new solution: each will take on a student, train him, and let the account be settled in the next generation. There is a curious choice in Lau Kar-wing's Hong Kong film: Sammo Hung and Lau Kar-wing play both masters, and the same pair play both students. Four parts belong to two actors. The fights are built around weapons, and the film shifts between comedy and seriousness without ever stopping.
