One Summer of Happiness

Göran, on his way to university, spends the summer on his uncle's farm and meets Kerstin there. The two grow attached quickly. But the village is watching: the girl's family and the pastor say the young people are behaving immorally, and the gossip grows. Göran and Kerstin carry on anyway. The summer lasts one summer. Arne Mattsson directed the film from a novel by Per Olof Ekström, and it was the first Swedish production to win the Golden Bear, at the Berlin Film Festival in 1952. Its scenes of nudity caused a large argument at the time and played a part in forming the international cliché about Swedish cinema. Ulla Jacobsson plays Kerstin.
