Michael Ware What Only the Dead Is About
Michael Ware is an Australian journalist who went to Iraq in 2003 and stayed seven years. The footage he shot himself is what this documentary is made of. It runs from the first days of the occupation in Baghdad, through getting close enough to the insurgency to be inside it, into the sectarian war and out on operations with American units. Some of the material had never been broadcast. Ware supplies his own account as well: what he got used to seeing, what he could not stop filming, and what that did to him. Bill Guttentag and Ware directed it together. Seventy-eight minutes, and not an easy watch.
