Over Your Cities Grass Will Grow

Anselm Kiefer is a German artist. He bought a piece of land in the south of France. Over the years he turned it into a world of his own. He set up a studio on the hill. The work does not stop at the studio, though. He dug tunnels into the ground. He raised towers. Concrete structures were left deliberately to decay. The documentary walks the whole of this place. The camera moves slowly and explains nothing. Kiefer is filmed while he works. He uses materials like lead, ash and glass. The film is built as a journey through a place. Anselm Kiefer shows his own grounds in the hundred and five minute documentary, a French, Dutch and British co-production Sophie Fiennes finished in 2011.
