What Peggy Guggenheim: Art Addict Is About
Peggy Guggenheim came from a wealthy family but did not use the money she inherited as expected: she collected modern art. She bought work in Europe that nobody else was buying, got her collection out of France during the war, then opened a gallery in New York and showed painters nobody knew. Jackson Pollock was among them. Lisa Immordino Vreeland's documentary rests on an audio recording long thought lost: an interview Guggenheim gave in her last years. The film presents her neither as a saint nor as a rich enthusiast; it describes both the sharpness of her eye and the way she treated the people around her. Marina Abramović and art historians also speak. Her house in Venice is a museum today.
