What Porinju Mariam Jose Is About
Kattalan Porinju and Jose are inseparable friends. Porinju carries a love for Mariyam that he cannot say out loud, and Jose is determined to see it settled one way or another. Then a small quarrel grows and all three of them are pulled into a chain of violence that keeps going. Directed by Joshiy, the film is set in the world of a local town and does not turn its fight scenes into a display of heroism; every act of violence has a price and someone else usually pays it. Joju George plays Porinju. The telling runs questions of friendship, loyalty and honour through the shape of an action film. At over two and a half hours it is an example of the action strain in Malayalam cinema.
