What Prince and the Evening Star Is About
Young Prince Velen is left in charge of the castle and of his three sisters. One night unexpected visitors arrive, and before he understands what is happening all three sisters are married off and gone, while he himself falls for a beautiful girl called Evening Star. He runs into the king's anger and is set a quest. The road is dangerous, with treacherous merchants, robbers, and the evil wizard Mrakomor. Václav Vorlíček's Czech fairy tale is a characteristic example of the country's long tradition of the form. Libuše Šafránková is in the cast. The sets and costumes are unusually careful for the period, and the moral is delivered without being brought to the surface.
