Psycho-Pass 3: First Inspector

In this society people's state of mind is measured continuously and the likelihood of committing a crime is turned into a number. Anyone whose number rises is arrested before committing anything. Inspector Kei Mikhail Ignatov and his team pick up the trail of a body called Bifrost, which steers the decisions of the measuring system from behind. At the same time a political assassination and the tension in an immigrant district are tied into the same file. Ignatov's own family is inside the matter and pursuing it could finish him. Naoyoshi Shiotani directs. The film was made as the continuation and the close of the third season of the Psycho-Pass series. It is a Japanese production. The narrative gathers the unfinished lines of the season and does not tell a story on its own. The matter it treats is the politics of measurement; the system appears neutral and its decisions serve particular interests. The film deals directly with immigration and borders. The action is longer and more detailed than the series usually allows. The narrative carries a great many institutions and characters and following it takes attention. The philosophical arguments of the series continue here and the characters make long speeches. The running time is long and it proceeds as though designed in two parts. The ending does not change the system. Its limit is context; anyone who does not know the series, and the third season in particular, cannot get into it.
