What Psycho-Pass: Sinners of the System - Case.1 Crime and Punishment Is About
In the winter of 2117 a vehicle goes out of control and crashes into the Public Safety Bureau building. The driver is Izumi Yasaka, who works as a psychological counsellor at an isolation facility in Aomori. It is decided that she will be sent back to her own country before being interrogated, and that raises suspicion. Inspector Shimotsuki is sent with Ginoza and Kunizuka. When they reach the facility they find a place that looks orderly, calm and well run, but something else is turning under the surface. Naoyoshi Shiotani directs. Kenji Nojima, Tomokazu Seki, Kana Hanazawa and Ayane Sakura are among the voices. It is a Japanese production. The film opened in Japan on 25 January 2019. This is the first film of the Psycho-Pass: Sinners of the System trilogy and carries the name Crime and Punishment. The narrative is set about six months after the first Psycho-Pass feature film and is counted as its sequel. The matter it treats is whether isolation is itself a treatment or another kind of prison; the facility is presented as a paradise and the film questions it. The film is written for people who know the series; the system, the characters and the terminology are expected to be known already. The narrative keeps a detective structure and the clues open in order. The action is held longer than in the television series. The characters' pasts are given through short references and stay unclear to a new viewer. The ending ties into the second film of the trilogy. Its limit is independence; it is not fully understandable alone and requires the earlier productions. Who it is for: viewers of Psycho-Pass and lovers of dark science fiction. Who it is not for: it needs context and the ending is open.
