Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part II: Eternal

The girls have learned what it means to be a magical girl. They were given power in return for a wish, and what they gave in return has come out: every magical girl turns in the end into the thing they fight. Once that is known the group falls apart. One will not accept it, one cannot bear it, and one looks for a way back. Homura can turn time back and has done it many times; each time she reaches the same end. Madoka has not yet made her wish and everyone is waiting to hear what it will be. Yukihiro Miyamoto and Akiyuki Shinbo direct. The film joins the second half of the television series for cinema. It was made at the Shaft studio and the visual manner of the series is kept. Its most striking feature is the witch spaces; those sections were made in collage and mixed technique and are entirely separate from the rest. The matter the narrative builds is a contract; power is given for a price and the price is not stated in advance. The series was widely argued over for turning the usual shape of the genre inside out and is counted a break within it. Yuki Kajiura's music carries the register. Its limit is the compilation structure; for anyone who has not seen the series some transitions are fast. Who it is for: viewers who like dark fantasy narratives and are following the series. Who it is not for: it is not an entry point, the subject is heavy, and the visual manner can be tiring.
