Quezon

Jerrold Tarog's 2025 Filipino film follows Manuel Quezon's political struggle during the period of American rule. When his demand for independence is tested, Quezon enters the hard rules of politics to outmanoeuvre his rivals, facing both the American governor and figures on his own side. As in Tarog's earlier historical films, heroism is not built plainly. Quezon is shown both as the driver of the independence cause and as a politician protecting his own position, and the film does not separate the two. Jericho Rosales leads and Iain Glen plays the American administrator. The production scale is wide; the period design and crowd sequences show a budget seldom seen in Filipino cinema. Who it's for: those interested in Philippine history and political biography. Who it's not for: viewers without the background of the period; the film uses a large number of names without explaining them.
