Quiz Lady

A withdrawn woman who has watched the same quiz show for years has to go on it to clear their mother's gambling debt. Her sister, who takes no responsibility for anything, comes along. The film keeps the contrast between the sisters while the narrative declines to decide who is right; that both were escaping the same house becomes clear late. The quiz sections are kept short and the weight is on what is said along the way. Jessica Yu directed, with Awkwafina and Sandra Oh. Who it's for: those who like comedy built on a sibling relationship. Who it's not for: viewers wanting game show tension; this is really a road comedy.
