What Race for Your Life, Charlie Brown Is About
Charlie Brown and his friends go to summer camp, where the big event is a raft race down the river. Charlie's team is the side nobody takes seriously, and facing them is a group of bullies who follow no rules. The raft breaks apart during the race, the girls work out a separate strategy, and Snoopy proceeds on his own. Bill Melendez made it as the third Peanuts feature, with Charles Schulz writing the screenplay himself. It keeps the small-scale melancholy familiar from the cartoons, but here the adventure dominates and the river sequences are genuinely tense. Snoopy and Woodstock's separate journey is the most remembered part. Who it is for: viewers who like the Peanuts characters and seventies American animation. Who it is not for: anyone looking for a sharp plot.
