Raw Deal: A Question Of Consent

The documentary takes up a disputed incident on a university campus. It happened at a party held by a student fraternity. A woman hired to dance at the party said the next morning that she had been raped. The students involved denied it. There is also footage filmed that night. That footage became the centre of the investigation. The prosecutor brought charges against nobody. The woman was charged instead with falsely reporting a crime. The case drew protest at the university. Women’s organisations took the matter up. The fraternity was eventually removed from campus. The film gives the incident as each side tells it. It reaches no firm conclusion about who was telling the truth. The production was argued over sharply when it was released. The question of how consent is established is left open. The ninety minute documentary is about a disputed case. It is an American production Billy Corben finished in 2001.
