What Limelight Is About
Peter Gatien ran nightclubs in New York. The Limelight was one of them. So were the Tunnel and the Palladium. In the eighties he sat at the centre of the city’s nightlife. The clubs drew thousands of people. Then things changed. In the middle of the nineties the city administration came down on nightlife. Police pressure and court cases followed one another. Gatien went through a long legal process. In the end he was deported to Canada. The documentary tells that rise and fall. Promoters from those years speak in the film. Michael Alig is one of them. Alig was later convicted of manslaughter. Moby is in the film as well. Gatien’s daughter Jen Gatien produced it. The hundred and two minute film is an American production Billy Corben finished in 2011.
