Restless Blood

Sylvi’s child is run over by a bus, and she drinks poison. She survives but loses her sight, and in the meantime her husband turns toward her much younger sister. Sylvi regains her vision through a dangerous operation, but hides that she has recovered and, wearing dark glasses, begins to watch her husband and her sister. The film offers the woman as neither victim nor avenger; its subject is the power that seeing, and not being seen to see, confers. The account belongs to Finnish melodrama of 1946 and gives feeling in heightened form. The reckoning of those who deceive runs inside the story too. Regina Linnanheimo plays the lead in Teuvo Tulio’s ninety one minute Finnish film, completed in 1946.
