Road to Roma

The 2020 documentary by Andrés Clariond and Gabriel Nuncio recounts how Alfonso Cuarón built his film Roma. The director returns to the streets of his childhood and describes the difference between his own memories and the scenes in the film, and what he changed deliberately. Its most valuable section is how the period detail was reproduced: furniture, street sound, the car models of the time, and how closely these match memory. The process of casting Yalitza Aparicio and the method of working with an inexperienced actor are also opened up. Its limit is staying tied to Cuarón's own account, with none of the criticism of the film entering. Who it's for: viewers who have seen Roma and are curious about how it was made. Who it's not for: anyone unfamiliar with the film, or wanting a critical assessment.
