The documentary follows the rock music school founded by Paul Green in Philadelphia. Children between nine and seventeen work there on pieces by Black Sabbath and Frank Zappa and go on stage at the end of the year. Green’s method is disputed: he shouts, he humiliates, he squabbles with the children like a child himself, and yet gets a level out of his students that nobody expected. The film neither clears him nor hangs him; it sets side by side what the children gain and what they put up with. Don Argott’s ninety three minute American documentary was completed in 2005, and the students of the school played on stage with Zappa’s musicians.
