See You Tomorrow, Everyone

After finishing primary school, Satoru Watarai does not go on with his education and decides never again to step outside the housing estate where he lives. The estate is one of those large state built settlements, with its school, its shops, its department store and his friends all inside it, so a whole world can be assembled for Satoru without any outside. As the years pass he takes a job at the cake shop on the estate and becomes engaged to one of his childhood friends, but those same years carry his friends off one by one to other cities. The film is about how a person draws his own boundary and how the life around that boundary empties out. Yoshihiro Nakamura’s hundred and twenty minute Japanese film was adapted from a novel by Takehiko Kubodera; Gaku Hamada plays Satoru, with Kana Kurashina and Kento Nagayama in the cast. It opened in Japan on 26 January 2013.
