In Sam Raimi’s film Rachel McAdams plays Linda, an employee of the company, and Dylan O’Brien plays Bradley, the new boss. The power reversal on the island starts from that order. The script was written in 2019 and then sat for years. After the pandemic the studio told Raimi it could not be made as a theatrical picture, only as a cheaper controlled streaming film. Raimi refused, saying he designs his films to play on an audience in a theatre, and moved the project to another studio. Shooting ran from February 2025 to 17 April, in Sydney, Los Angeles and Thailand. The plane crash required performers flown on wires; the raft escape was shot in a wave pool in Australia. The boar attack used a practical puppet on set with the computer generated animal added later; Raimi’s note to the effects team was to lose the sheen on the fur that made it look too friendly. He had the sequence storyboarded throughout and asked McAdams to learn it like a piece of music. The film opened at number one and took 94 million dollars worldwide against a 40 million dollar budget. A good fit if you like watching without knowing who to side with. Not for anyone unwilling to be steered towards a character who gets two bystanders killed.
