What Sequences... Is About
The film is built of three separate parts, and one film crew at work ties the three together. In the first the crew is introduced: they make films of praise supported by the state while working on films of their own. In the second they are scouting a restaurant for locations and the owner is drawn into telling the misery of his life at length. In the third two extras sit at the same table in the background of a scene. One of them slowly understands that the man across from him is the person who tortured him forty years ago in a Nazi camp. The film lists the places where the real and the invented run into each other; what is behind the camera and what is in the past meet in the same frame. That it was shot in Romania in 1982 also sets the weight of the first part. Alexandru Tatos’s ninety eight minute Romanian film was completed in 1982.
