Sev Kardeşim

Ertem Eğilmez's 1972 Turkish film follows the relationship between Alev, who works in a factory, and Ferit, the owner's son. Alev takes a bet with her workmates that she will make Ferit fall in love with her. The plan works, and then her own feeling gets in the way. The film keeps class difference inside its comedy. The distance between the working girls and the owner's family stays visible, but the narrative frames it as an obstacle that can be crossed rather than a conflict, and endorses the order in the end. Hülya Koçyiğit and Tarık Akan lead, with Münir Özkul and Adile Naşit in support. The production methods of Yeşilçam at the time are visible throughout: fast shooting, post-dubbing and a familiar ensemble. Who it's for: those who like Yeşilçam comedy and seventies Turkish cinema. Who it's not for: viewers expecting social criticism; the film finally resolves class difference through romance.
