Sing a Bit of Harmony

A high school is running an artificial intelligence trial. A student called Shion joins the class; she is not human but a prototype AI, and nobody knows it. Her instruction is one sentence: make Satomi happy. She works out how to do that by herself, and the answer is to sing. Yasuhiro Yoshiura directs for J.C.Staff. The idea is to treat artificial intelligence not as a threat but as a system that pursues its objective too faithfully. Shion is not malicious. She applies her definition to the letter, and every problem that follows comes out of that excess of loyalty. The musical numbers are not detours from the narrative but part of it: when Shion sings there are real consequences inside the school and the other students react. Yoshiura was already known for Patema Inverted and Time of Eve, the second of which was also about people and artificial intelligence living together. This film continues that line. Who it is for: viewers who want science fiction anime, musical numbers, and an optimistic story about artificial intelligence. Who it is not for: anyone expecting technical consistency. The film bends its own AI logic frequently and the last section rests entirely on an emotional resolution.
