What So B. It Is About

Twelve year old Heidi has grown up with her mother, who has an intellectual disability, and with Bernadette, the neighbour who keeps an eye on them both. Nobody knows anything about her mother’s past, and one day the girl sets out alone across the country to learn where her mother and she herself came from, with everything she finds on the way taking her somewhere she did not expect. Stephen Gyllenhaal’s ninety eight minute American film was adapted from Sarah Weeks’s children’s novel of 2004, with a screenplay by Garry Williams. Talitha Eliana Bateman plays Heidi and Alfre Woodard plays Bernadette, with John Heard and Jacinda Barrett in the cast. It was completed in 2016 and shows that the truth, once learned, does not always bring relief.
