What St. Michael Had a Rooster Is About
In 1870, in a small town in Umbria, the anarchist Giulio Manieri and his comrades attempt a rising; the venture is hopeless from the start and all of them are taken. His death sentence commuted to life, Manieri spends ten years in solitary confinement and keeps himself standing by holding political arguments with himself. In the end it is decided to move him to another prison; on the journey he meets revolutionaries of a new generation who do not know who he is and whose language is entirely different. The man sees that what held him up for ten years has long since been left behind outside. The ninety minute Italian film by Paolo and Vittorio Taviani was adapted from a story by Tolstoy; Giulio Brogi takes the lead.
