What Sun, Hay and a Couple of Slaps Is About
A village in South Bohemia, for the second time. The Konopnik and Skopek families are back. Venca Konopnik is going to marry Blazena Skopek, but a woman called Milada starts spreading gossip out of jealousy. The gossip grows until the two families are at each other's throats. Meanwhile the village's milk yield project carries on at its own pace. This is the second film in Zdenek Troska's trilogy of village comedies. It was made in the last years of Czechoslovakia and became a cult item there, built on broad jokes, farmyard humour and instantly recognisable types. It is not a subtle film and is not attempting to be one. It still plays on Czech television and its lines have long since entered everyday speech.
