Super Sharanya

Girish A. D.'s 2022 Malayalam film follows Sharanya, an ordinary girl who leaves Palakkad to study engineering in Thrissur. Lacking confidence and preferring to disappear into a crowd, she begins to change as she gets to know Deepu. The film builds this not as a transformation story but as a person slowly noticing her own limits. Anaswara Rajan's performance refuses to make the character's shyness an endearing trait; Sharanya is sometimes selfish, sometimes unfair, and the film does not try to correct her. Girish A. D. rebuilds the university environment in detail and with familiarity. A young woman sitting this comfortably at the centre of the story is one of the notable recent tendencies in Malayalam cinema. Who it's for: viewers who like the new generation of Malayalam cinema and character-driven youth comedy. Who it's not for: anyone wanting a defined plot, or who will struggle with the local references to campus culture.
