What Sweet Talker Is About
Ferit comes from a wealthy family and is studying medicine, though what he really cares about is basketball. At a training camp with his team he meets Emine, the village schoolteacher, who spends her days helping the people around her and is entirely unimpressed by a young playboy from Istanbul. He persists, they admit what they feel, and they marry. The first days go well, until Ferit's Istanbul friends turn up in the village. Ertem Eğilmez's 1972 film assembles nearly the whole Arzu Film company: Tarık Akan, Filiz Akın, Halit Akçatepe, Metin Akpınar, Zeki Alasya and a young Kemal Sunal. It is one of the sweetest uses Yeşilçam ever made of the gap between the city and the countryside.
