What The Amazing Dr. Clitterhouse Is About
A wealthy society doctor decides to research what actually happens inside a criminal's body, and his method is peculiar: he will commit the crimes himself. He steals jewellery, takes his own pulse, writes it all down, then joins a gang of thieves and shortly afterwards takes it over. The previous leader is not pleased about this. The further the research goes, the less clear it becomes where the doctor now stands. Anatole Litvak directs, with Edward G. Robinson as the doctor and Humphrey Bogart as the resentful gang boss. John Huston worked on the screenplay. It sits between black comedy and crime film and ends up asking a direct question about sanity.
