Decision Before Dawn

The last months of the Second World War. Germany is in ruins and will not give in. The American army has no reliable picture of the German units on the far side of the Rhine, and decides to send two German prisoners back to find out. The scheme is dangerous: the Gestapo is very good at catching spies and deserters. And of the two men, one will do any dirty work for the right price while the other is sick of the war and liable to be undone by his own feelings. It is the second who is parachuted into Bavaria. Anatole Litvak directs, with Oskar Werner and Richard Basehart. It was shot among the ruins of postwar Germany. The film was nominated for the Academy Award for best picture.
