The Attacks Of 26/11

Ram Gopal Varma's 2013 film recounts the 2008 attacks in Mumbai. The narrative runs through the account of Rakesh Maria, then a senior police officer, and the events are given chronologically from the attackers entering the city to the capture. The film does not soften the violence. The scenes at the railway station and in the hotels are held long and the deaths shown in detail. Varma described this as a deliberate choice; when the film was released the approach was debated, and some critics said it turned suffering into spectacle. Sanjeev Jaiswal plays the one attacker taken alive. The film's weakest element is a long ideological speech in the final section, which offers a close detached from the realism of the rest. Who it's for: those able to watch thrillers based on real events. Who it's not for: viewers who need to avoid footage of a terrorist attack; the film keeps it graphic and long.
