What The Clouded Yellow Is About
Forced out of the British Secret Service, David Somers takes a job cataloguing a butterfly collection at a country house. When the local gamekeeper is murdered, suspicion settles on Sophie, the young niece of the household. Somers believes she is innocent, stops her being arrested, and the two of them go on the run. Ralph Thomas made one of the better chase pictures of British noir, and the tension never lets up along the route from the countryside down to the docks at Liverpool. Jean Simmons and Trevor Howard lead; the butterflies are not incidental, the man has an eye trained on detail.
