What The Devil from Seventh Grade Is About
Adam Cisowski is a schoolboy whose mind is not wandering but working rather too well. He goes after a treasure said to have been hidden by a soldier of Napoleon’s army; all he has is an old clue and his own power of deduction. But he is not the only one looking for it, and the people he is up against are not playing. The film joins adventure with a school story; the boy hero enters the world of adults on his own wits and nobody helps him. The account moves without inflating its suspense and without letting go of its humour, and came to be counted among the best known works of Polish children’s cinema. It was adapted from a novel. Jozef Skwark plays the lead in Maria Kaniewska’s hundred and five minute Polish film, completed in 1960.
