What The Enchanted Dollar Is About
A child takes a counterfeit dollar note found in the street to the detective everyone in town knows. When the question of where the note came from is looked into, the affair grows, Major Kardos takes charge of the investigation, and they follow the trail of the forgers both in the city and around the lake. Chases, misunderstandings and the fights of the burly detective make up the spine of the film. The account builds the crime not as a thriller but as a mishap turning inside small town life, with the forgers and the police equally incompetent. István Bujtor’s ninety minute Hungarian comedy belongs to the popular crime series in which the director himself starred; András Kern also appears. It was completed in 1986.
